Belemu named ‘Woman of the Match’ as the Copper Queens settle for a Goalless draw against Cameroon.

The Zambia Women National Team played their opening match in the Total Energies Women Africa Cup of Nations against Cameroon to a Goalless draw at the Mohammad V Stadium in Casablanca – Morocco.

Meeting for the first time since 2020 when the Copper Queens beat Cameroon to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, the Zambian side maintained the game safely and defensively blocking every chance to concede.

The Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon started off with a test on Hazel Nali a few seconds into the Match that set the tone of the much anticipated encounter and went on to create more clear chances in both the first and second halves but frustratingly couldn’t get the ball into the net.

Speaking to the Media after being Awarded the Woman of the Match accolade, Margaret Belemu expressed how the absence of Skipper ‘Barbra Banda’ affected the team, however they encouraged each other to play well and make her proud of and so they did.

“I will say this confidently, we are here for the Cup, we want to go to the World Cup because at Senior level we have never been to the World Cup” – Belemu.
